All About Jacey

Today Jacey and I were chatting while she was helping me spread mulch.  She had her shovel and wheelbarrow and we took turns getting loads and spreading it around our new trees.  We were talking about favorite things and she was asking me to name her whole family and she would tell me her favorite thing to do with them.  So here are Jacey’s favorite things to do with:

Mommy: make cakes, Daddy:  wrestle on the floor, Jack: play in his room, June: tickle her, Nana: go to her house and play, Papa: snuggle him, Granny: get up before morning time and read books and drink tea, Grumps: skype with him because he is so silly.

Jacey is starting to put her face under the water at swimming lessons, she is taking karate and LOVES it, she likes to do push ups with me during the day, and she is taking her craftiness to a whole new level.  The other day she crafted herself a pair of trousers and she told me when she gets bigger she will craft trousers on the sewing machine.  She is a crazy driver on the John Deere tractor.  Most of her days involve cutting and coloring and gluing something together.  She is chatty, she is crafty, she is funny, she is a very sweet big sister to June.

Catch Up – Jacey’s Birthday

Jacey was lucky enough to have three birthday celebrations this year, the year she turned FOUR YEARS OLD.  Granny and Grumps came for a weekend and celebrated both Jacey and Grumps’ birthdays.  A day was spent at 1000 Islands tramping the trails, looking for ducks, and trying not to fall off the walkways into the chilly river.  There was also cake and presents, of course.  One of Jacey’s favorite gifts was the pom-pom monster making kit which has already made its appearance earlier on the blog.

On Jacey’s actual birthday, we ate dinner at home and then rode our bike to the local ice cream shop for a celebration ice cream cone.  We came home, got all ready for bed and then she opened her presents.  I have a picture of the before, but not of the after actually using the presents.  We got Jacey a puzzle, a book “Madaline” and a tub of legos, which included pink, orange, and light blue legos.  We spent the rest of the night building houses and pony stables since the set also came with a lady and horse.

There was also a birthday fish fry dinner with Nana, Papa, and Uncles/Aunt.  Another cake was made, a blue tractor cake that Jacey helped make and lick the spoon frost.

The kids spent the rest of the weekend with Nana and Papa while Justin and I worked on some projects at home.  The kids got every plastic vehicle out of the shed to drive and were so excited to show us how they learned to hula-hoop!

Monster

Jacey received a pom-pom monster making kit from Granny and Grumps for her birthday.   Here is monster number one!  I helped Jacey make the pom-pom, and she picked out all the accessories.  We used the hot glue gun and poof!  A fun new monster craft!

First Haircut

Today I took June to get her first haircut.  Jacey was so excited and wanted her hair cut too so she could “show June how to sit really really still.”  Jacey got bangs and about an inch trimmed off.  She loves her bangs especially that her hair stays out of her face.  We went to Great Clips and were the only people there, so both girls got their hair cut at the same time.  June sat so very nice and still.  Every now and then she would look for Jacey to see what she was doing, and then she would look at herself in the mirror and smile.  She did such a good job!  The nice ladies there gave them each a sticker and a little certificate with a lock of June’s hair from her first haircut!

Snowman Cake!

Last week we got our first real snowstorm of the season and Jacey said we should celebrate and make a cake.  A snowman cake.  Her reasoning was that we hadn’t had any cake in awhile and her birthday in March is really really really far away.  So we looked online to find a snowman cake.

Jacey thought this cake was really cute.

We mixed up the batter and then drank hot cocoa and did some painting while the cake was baking.

After nap time we frosted the cake and Jacey was in charge of finding things in the cupboard to decorate the snowman.  She did all the decorating herself, except for the scarf.  She used raisins for eyes, mouth and buttons, cinnamon sticks for arms and legs, and found a chunk of sweet potato from June’s lunch that looked like a carrot nose.  We didn’t have any licorice, so we decided to make him a scarf out of an orange peel.  Jacey was so proud of her cake and when Jack and Justin came home she couldn’t wait to show them!

It was a very tasty cake.

The Bus Stop

Lately Jacey’s favorite “game” to play is called bus stop.  She dresses up in some fantastic outfit and then June and I have to walk her to the bus stop.  The bus stop is the tractor bank in Jack’s room because it looks like a stop sign and has flashing lights.  So June and I walk her there, and then we have to “watch” for the bus.  We have  a little conversation about what she is going to do at school and when the “bus” comes, Jacey needs a kiss and a hug.  June and I wave to her while she walks down the hallway, and then we have to stay away from the living room because that is where her school is.

She did let me take one picture of her “at school” while she was looking for birds.  She explained that her school today was a nature school and they needed their camping supplies to learn about camping and birds.

June and I then have to wait patiently in Jack’s room until Jacey announces that school is over and the bus is coming home.  We stand by the bus stop and then greet her and ask her about her day.

And then we do it all over again after she changes into another outfit.

Jacey the Artist

Jacey gets out the paints almost every day.  I actually had to find my spare set that I usually keep in the camper since she ran out of white, red, and green.  We are also having trouble finding pages in the coloring books that haven’t been colored in.  One day she told me I’d better tell Santa and Granny and Nana that she was running out of supplies and that she “wants to be an artist” so she needs to keep painting every day.

She painted pictures, painted popsicle sticks to make ornaments, painted wider sticks to make book marks, painted pages in old books that I had in the art closet, and she’s still going…

Haircut!

Jacey was so excited to get her hair cut today.  She asked for it to be short, like to her chin.  She’s very happy with the result and has been twirling her head around all day because “it feels funny on her neck.”

Dance Class

Jacey has been asking to go to dance class for months now.  I signed her up for a ballet/tap class at the Y, one night a week for 30 minutes.  She was SO excited to go, she picked out her outfit, asked me to give her pigtails and then told me to please take her picture.  Here she is wearing MY ballet shoes and purple leotard from when I took dance class and my tap shoes are in the bag next to her to take along.

Dress Up

Jacey LOVES to play dress up.  Luckily my mom saved a bunch of my old dresses and costumes from when I was young and has been pulling them out of the depths to put in our “dress up box” as Jacey gets older.  Here she is modeling the most recent outfit, my old dance costume.
